Key Hazards

  • Risk of slipping, tripping, or falling while checking tracks, which can cause hand and leg injuries.
  • Danger of body parts (fingers, hands, head) getting crushed between the locomotive and the wagon.
  • Hazards from extreme weather (heat, cold, rain) and risk of eye injuries from loco air pressure.

Operating Rules

  • Always fill out the checklist and work permit before moving the locomotive.
  • Keep the locomotive at a safe, controlled speed at all times.
  • Use Motorola radios for clear communication; mobile phones are strictly prohibited during operation.

PPE & Safety Steps

  • Always use good condition skid blocks and handle them properly.
  • Never climb onto a moving locomotive under any circumstances.
  • Clean slippery surfaces, use handrails, and always follow the "3-point contact" rule on stairs.

Special Protocols

  • At night or in dark areas, always use a torch to ensure proper visibility before any movement.
  • Keep your body away from the wagon when using the decoupling lever to avoid getting hit.
  • The locomotive operator must stay seated inside the cabin unless it is absolutely necessary to step out.
